New App Marketing Guide: Tips for Making 2018 Your Best Year in Mobile

In the 2018 App Marketing Guide, you'll get inspiration for making mobile campaigns in 2018 your best yet. You’ll see how AirBNB uses app onboarding to increase push opt-ins and retention, how 30% of all Starbucks transactions happen through its mobile app, and how AI and AR are used by big brands to increase in-app engagement.

Onboarding and retention through push

To start off the guide, we show you the importance of having a user onboarding experience in place in 2018.

Last year, we analyzed data from Localytics customers that uncovered the impact onboarding has on retention. On average, apps that implemented a proper user onboarding strategy saw 61% of users visit their app 11 or more times while apps without proper onboarding saw only 41% of users visit their app 11 or more times.

Another analysis we conducted showed the impact of push opt-ins on retention: 65% of users who had push enabled returned to an app within 30 days and only 19% of those who didn’t returned to an app within that same period.

More payment integrations to meet more mobile demand

In 2017, mobile was responsible for generating 42% of Black Friday sales. And on Cyber Monday, mobile sales accounted for $2 billion out of $6.59 billion in total sales. These were both new records for mobile-generated revenue. What this means is that it’s more important than ever to get mobile payments right.

In the guide, we offer some ways to do this. For instance, you can build your own payment system like Starbucks did or integrate your app with one or more mobile payment platforms (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, PayPal, etc.).

Using rich push, AI, and AR to make engagement easier

In December 2016, our customers sent five million rich push notifications. By March 2017, that number eclipsed 40 million. And customers sending rich push notifications saw over 30% increase in engagement.

In the guide, we show you examples of rich push in action. We also review mobile tech outside of push. You'll see how apps are leveraging artificial intelligence to anticipate user actions (to make action/engagement easier) and how augmented reality is creating a more stimulating user experience.
