Introducing Recommended Audiences

If you’ve gone to the Audiences screen in Localytics over the past few weeks, you might have noticed a new section at the top of the page. This is a new feature that we’re calling Recommended Audiences. It allows you to create some popular and very useful Audiences with a single click.

As a reminder, Audiences are how you send messages to specific groups of users in Localytics. You can build Audiences based on:

  • User behavior inside the app (e.g. “Users who have viewed a product in the Electronics section”)

  • User profile data (e.g. “Users who live in San Francisco”)

  • A combination of behavior and profile data (e.g. “Users who live in San Francisco and have viewed a product in the Electronics section”)

We’ve created Recommended Audiences to make the process of building commonly used Audiences more streamlined. Rather than having to build the Audience from scratch, when you select a Recommended Audience, all of the behavioral and profile fields are pre-populated, ensuring that your message will reach the right audience.

We have started with four Recommended Audiences. These are based on the user lifecycle, making them perfect for campaigns designed to onboard new users, engage active users, and re-engage users who have churned. The four initial Recommended Audiences are:

  • New Users - Users whose first session in the app occurred in the last 30 days. Use this Audience to build onboarding campaigns.

  • Returning Users - Returning users who were last active in the app less than 30 days ago. Although we generally recommend using more targeted audiences to engage with returning users, every once in awhile it makes sense to send a message to all returning users (e.g. promoting a big sale, highlighting a major announcement, etc.).

  • One and Done - Users who have only used the app once and that one session occurred between 30 and 180 days ago. These are the users who opened your app and failed to see value. You should target this Audience with messages that highlight the value your app can provide and convince them to give you a second chance.

  • Churned Users - Users whose last session was between 30 and 180 days ago. Target these users with messages designed to re-engage the user and drive them back into the app.

It’s important to note that once you’ve added a Recommended Audience, it behaves just like an Audience that you created from scratch. That means you can edit and modify it however you’d like. For example, you might use the Returning Users Recommended Audience as a starting point and add in additional criteria to target a more specific sub-section of these users.

We will be rolling out additional Recommended Audiences in the coming weeks and months. The goal is to provide Audiences that help our customers follow best practices when it comes to customer engagement. If you’ve got an idea for a Recommended Audience, be sure to share it in the comments section below.
